Children
Programs for Children Grades 1-5
Sunday Mornings at Northwest
Sunday School
Sunday School classes are offered every week during the first worship service in the Education Building. Children in grades 1-3 meet in room 115 and children in grades 4&5 meet in room 113. Classes meet from 9:00 until 10:15 when children are dismissed to their parents.
Children’s Church & Choir
During the school year, children in grades 1-5 have the opportunity to participate in Children’s Church and Children’s Choir. These programs take place twice a month on the same Sunday during the second worship service. At an appointed time in the service, the children are dismissed to accompany the Children’s Church and Choir leaders. The children rotate between Children’s Church, where they participate in fun activities such as crafts and a Bible lesson, and Children’s Choir, where they learn age-appropriate Christian songs and work towards a children’s choir performance at certain holiday times. Parents should pick up their children at the conclusion of the worship service in the Youth Room in the Education Building.
Wednesday Evenings at Northwest
Awana
Awana is a para-church ministry that, for the past sixty years, has helped more than 17,000 churches and millions of parents worldwide raise children to know, love, and serve Christ. Awana is a club where kids are introduced to the Gospel, challenged to grow in their faith, and encouraged to learn Bible verses. Kids wear uniforms and get to earn patches for them. They also get to play fun community building games. During the school year, Awana is offered every Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 at Northwest. The Sparks (K5-2nd grade) and T&T (3rd- 5th grade) groups meet in the Fellowship Hall in the lower level below the sanctuary. Parents should drop off and pick up their children there.
Summers at Northwest
Children’s Camp
Every summer, Northwest sends a group of children, to Children’s Camp in Montello, Wisconsin. Here, the children, along with other children from the Lakeland Baptist Association, spend five days in a fun-filled, Christ-centered atmosphere. The Gospel is presented, and children are encouraged to learn the basics of discipleship. Children get the opportunity to participate in many fun outdoor and indoor recreation activities such as swimming, carpetball, crafts, and horseback riding. Children who have completed grades 3-6 are eligible to participate.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer, Northwest hosts a Vacation Bible School for both preschool and school age children. Children participate in worship, music, crafts, mission studies, recreation, and Bible studies. Children are encouraged to bring their friends, as vacation Bible school has the potential to reach many children in our community for Christ!
